It was a pretty memorable Canada Day for Maggy Marcelin.
And now, she is able to vote.
Originally from Haiti, Marcelin, who joined the Clarence-Rockland customer service team almost two years ago, has officially received her Canadian citizenship.
“I am so excited and happily proud that this has officially happened,” said Marcelin in an interview with The Vision. “I love this country, I love the people, and I am happy to have my family here.”
After leaving her home country, Marcelin and family entered the United States and later came to Canada in 2017. Along with her husband and two children, the family has made Rockland their home.
“What a wonderful community we have here,” said Marcelin of the city of Clarence-Rockland. “The people here are so respectful and so nice and have been very welcoming.”
Her colleagues at the City celebrated her accomplishment, posting on the City’s social media channels about Marcelin officially becoming a Canadian citizen.
“I was so surprised, I had tears in my eyes,” said Marcelin on her colleagues celebrating her becoming a Canadian citizen. “I wasn’t expecting them to do anything for me, but it was so nice and they made me feel special. We have such a great team here, and I love what I do.”
