Hawkesbury council members expressed support for the idea during their August 17 teleconference session. The topic came up during Chief Administrator Daniel Gatien’s verbal presentation on possible future uses for the OPP building at the corner of Cartier Boulevard and Higginson Street.

September decision on wards boundaries issue
The Nation council has postponed making its decision on changes to the electoral boundary setup for the municipality. The original plan called for council approving one of two options during its August 10 session. Instead council has rescheduled the final decision until September 28 to allow local residents more time to review the two options and provide comments and criticisms and also express their preference.

Summer drought conditions ease up
The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) reported that the low water condition for three areas of the watershed has changed from Level 2 to Level 1. Those areas include the Lower South Nation, Bear Brook, and Castor River subwatersheds, which cover Russell Township, The Nation Municipality, Casselman, Clarence-Rockland, and Alfred-Plantagenet Township.

State of emergency under review for UCPR
Pierre Leroux, current warden for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR), confirmed during the August 12 committee of the whole teleconference, that he and UCPR staff have been talking with their counterparts for the United Counties of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry (UCSDG) and the City of Cornwall regarding the existing states of emergency for public health in the Five Counties and Cornwall areas of Eastern Ontario.
