The original budget document which staff presented to council last month proposed a two-per-cent increase in property taxes. During several days of line-by-line review of the budget document and discussion about municipal needs and priorities, council directed administration to revise the 2020 budget to allow for a four-per-cent increase, which is covered in the municipal levy portion of municipal revenue. The levy is composed of local property taxes.

The 100-megawatt Nation Rise Wind Farm project nears completion as several of the last towers rise up, waiting for their fan-blade attachments, followed by connection to the Ontario Power Grid. The Nation Rise Wind Farm is owned by EDP Renewables, a Portuguese company which specializes in alternative energy projects. Company officials expect to have it online and producing energy to sell to Ontario by the end of this year.

The hardworking local volunteer and community activist, winner of multiple volunteer awards, will be roasted and honoured for her extensive volunteerism in Russell Township. Funds raised at this event will be used toward a potential future aquacentre in Russell Township.

« There are some seniors who won’t even get a visitor this Christmas, » says Allison Chisholm of the Perras Chisholm Team. « We created Santa for Seniors to give people in our community the opportunity to show our seniors that we care about them. »

C’est lors d’une conférence de presse, qui s’est tenue le 24 octobre dernier, qu’on a dévoilé les nouveaux locaux du 649, Notre-Dame, à Embrun. Non loin du carrefour giratoire, à l’extrémité ouest du village, ce nouvel édifice regroupe pour le moment cinq entreprises professionnelles. Deux d’entre elles, qui occupaient déjà d’autres bureaux à Embrun, y ont emménagé. Il s’agit du Centre communautaire de l’Estrie (CSCE) et la compagnie d’assurance et d’investissement The Co-operators, qui appartient à Philippe Ryan.
