The Ministry of Environment (MoE) is still waiting for François Charlebois, a local developer and co-founder of FCB Products, and his former partner, Sayed Abdullah Ahmad of Toronto, to obey an order to clean up the site located along County Road 14 in East Hawkesbury Township. The order was issued in September 2019 and gave them until mid-October that year to remove the trash.

«Le confinement que nous avons vécu nous a sensibilisés au fait qu’il est très difficile pour les jeunes sportives et sportifs d’être restreints dans leurs activités», a affirmé Christian Fréchette, président du comité de mise en œuvre de la Fondation Jeunesse Sportive des Laurentides (FJSL). «Cet évènement particulier est venu confirmer notre volonté de soutenir la jeunesse des Laurentides à demeurer active, en leur offrant le meilleur encadrement possible.»

Joseph Martino, director for the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), released his report on a motor vehicle accident that occurred June 24, 2019, on St-Guillaume Road near Embrun. A 60-year-old who was fleeing from the Ottawa Police suffered a fractured vertebra as a result of the accident.

The case was turned over to the SIU, which is an independent agency that investigates cases involving police where injury, death or sexual assault is alleged. Director Martino concluded « there are no reasonable grounds » to believe that the police committed any criminal action in their pursuit that makes them responsible for his injury.

Case summary

Martino’s report summarized the incident, based on separate interviews with the complainant and police officers either involved or witnesses to the incident.

Police were pursuing a stolen 2019 Toyota 4Runner, which also had stolen Quebec licence plates. The chase on June 24, 2019, began in Ottawa just before 5 a.m. from Hunt Club Road and continued for 20 minutes via the 417 Highway and then onto St-Guillaume Road towards the Village of Embrun in Russell Township.

The stolen vehicle went out of control and rolled in the roundabout at the village entrance from St-Guillaume Road. The complainant was taken to Montfort Hospital, diagnosed with and treated for minor injuries and released later that morning.

The complainant still claimed to be in pain and was taken back to the hospital for X-rays and an MRI scan. A vertebra fracture was diagnosed and he was sent to Ottawa Civic Hospital under guard for further treatment.

SIU examination of the patrol car involved in the chase showed no signs that it had made any contact with the Toyota during the pursuit. Also the vehicle GPS and other recording equipment showed that during the highway portion of the pursuit, the two vehicles reached a maximum speed of 190 kilometres an hour in what was, at the time, a 100 kph zone. Transcripts of radio dispatch conversations during the chase indicated highway traffic was « light » at the time and road conditions dry.

The pursuing patrol slowed down to about 43 kilometres to negotiate a right-hand turn onto St-Guillaume Road from the Rockdale Road exit from the highway. Radio transcript indicates both vehicles were then travelling at 170 kph on St-Guillaume Road towards Embrun. OPP patrol cars were on the way to provide support and then paramedics were called when the Toyota went out of control at the roundabout.

Director Martino noted that the pursuing officer was in constant contact with dispatch and other officers during the chase and that he slowed his own vehicle when approaching the roundabout before the complainant lost control of his own and ended up rolling the Toyota.

« There is no basis for proceeding with any charges in this case, » stated Director Martino, « and the file is closed. »

La jeune étudiante d’Embrun remporte ainsi une bourse d’études de 4000$, en plus de 1000$ qui seront remis à son école secondaire, soit l’école secondaire catholique d’Embrun. «Je m’intéresse et j’ai grandi avec de la nouvelle technologie de précision et l’innovation agricole qui permet de nous offrir une agriculture plus durable et soutenable, mentionnait Nadia Clément dans sa vidéo de candidature à la bourse. J’aurais la chance de profiter de cette bourse pour mon éducation, mais mon éducation me permettra aussi de partager mes innovations».

Il s’agit de la toute première remise pour cette bourse qui s’adresse à des étudiants qui s’inscrivent à un programme d’études postsecondaires dans le but d’œuvrer dans le domaine de l’agriculture. Les fonds sont remis par G3, en partenariat avec Agriculture en Classe Canada (ACC).

«Nous sommes ravis d’avoir établi un partenariat avec G3 dans le cadre de cette incroyable opportunité de bourses d’études pour les jeunes Canadiens, a déclaré Johanne Ross, directrice générale d’ACC. Les candidats nous ont prouvé que les leaders agricoles de demain sont innovants et brillants. Félicitations aux récipiendaires de la bourse Grow Beyond, nous sommes fiers de vous! »

Sandra Clément, mère de Nadia, affichait également une belle fierté à la suite de la nomination de sa fille. «Des bonnes nouvelles comme cela, il y a de quoi être fière. Les femmes qui percent dans le domaine agricole, c’est un bel atout! »

À partir de cette semaine, la bibliothèque de Limoges, située au 205 chemin Limoges, offre un service de prêts de documents en bordure de la rue. Des mesures sanitaires sont mises en place afin de s’assurer que tous les livres et documents qui circulent ne peuvent pas transmettre la COVID.

Il est possible d’effectuer la commande de documents par courriel à biblioinfo@nationmun.ca et en visitant la liste des ouvrages disponibles sur le site web de la bibliothèque. Le nom, numéro de téléphone et l’adresse de la personne qui souhaite louer des documents est nécessaire lors de l’envoi du courriel de commande et les détails sur la cueillette seront communiqués par courriel.

Par ailleurs, un maximum de 10 documents est imposé par période de trois semaines et la carte de la bibliothèque est demandée lors de la cueillette des documents.

Finalement, ceux qui veulent effectuer la location de documents, mais qui ne sont pas en mesure de se déplacer peuvent contacter le 613-913-5630 afin d’obtenir un service de livraison à domicile.

City council approved a bylaw authorizing an agreement with Call2Recycle for collection and disposal of used household batteries. The agreement is all part of the city’s revising of its own municipal recycling program to meet the guidelines of the provincial government’s plan for producer-responsible recycling in Ontario.

Not so oddly, the large majority of public servants, teachers and politicians who can stay home and collect their paychecks support this endless quarantine. Moreover, they will use the Internet to moralize those who object to it. Yet if these individuals had the moral high ground they pretend to have, they would give up their paychecks to those losing their businesses, jobs or homes because of the government’s abuse of power. Clearly, this will never happen because all those people are opportunists… at our expense!

People are suffering economic hardships with bankruptcies, divorces, child poverty and some will end up suicidal. It’s been reported that there is a substantial increase in sales of drugs and alcohol, which means people losing their jobs are falling into unhealthy additions… Where are Dr. Roumeliotis’ studies to consider the downside of his abuse of power? During Jesus’s time, lepra was a plague but at no time did the world quarantine the healthy people.

In short, isn’t there a better way to stay healthy but to inhale oxygen, as opposed to wearing a mask and inhale your own carbon dioxide?

Real professionals (not dictators) provide advice to patients and we decide what’s best for ourselves. If someone is at risk, be my guess and take all the precautions you want. This is called “live and let live”! Meanwhile, kids need their parks and pools, they need their friends and summer camps//activities, and they want happy parents smiling to them without a mask!
