Contractor signed for new PR Residence project
The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) approved a bylaw authorizing an agreement between the UCPR and Kanata-based Hein Construction. The bylaw was approved during a special session of the UCPR council on December 17. Chief administrator Stéphane Parisien told council that his department had been waiting for the provincial government to approve the final selection of Hein Construction as the project’s general contractor.

Prescott and Russell Residence COVID outbreak ends
The Hawkesbury long term care home was the site of the deadliest outbreak in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU). From the official declaration of the outbreak on October 9 to its end on December 21, more than 170 cases were detected.

$3 million in storm water, sewer upgrades for L’Orignal
Federal, provincial and municipal funding for the project was announced on Friday, December 18. As part of the improvements, about 450 metres of new storm sewer will be installed, while another 250 metres of undersized sewer would be replaced. An additional 450 metres of watermain would be installed and 450 metres of sanitary sewer would be relined, while fire hydrants, valves, manholes and catch basins for storm water run-off would be built.

Extra COVID rules for large retailers after complaints
In addition to controlling numbers of patrons inside a store, retailers will be required to post and enforce a maximum number of patrons for each individual department. The Section 22 order will come into force on Saturday, December 19 from 12.01 a.m. after numerous complaints to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) about inadequate line and crowd control inside large multidepartmental stores.
