The Kin Club of Russell’s Catch the Ace lottery returns on the Halloween weekend and the potential prize is worth more than $90,000.

The popular local fundraising lottery is back after being suspended for the past few months because of the pandemic. The lottery now has an online purchasing system for tickets, in addition to the standard ticket sales available at certain local stores!

Less than two dozen prize-winning envelopes remain for the new draw series which takes place November 22. Tickets for the draw become available November 1 at local stores which serve as sales outlets and also through the online purchase system at www.kinclubofrussell.ca/catch-the-ace.

Proceeds from the Catch the Ace lottery help support KinClub community projects.

Town council reviewed a report from Morrison Hershfield, a Toronto-based consultant firm, on results of an environmental site assessment (ESA) of Chenail Boulevard. The ESA focused on the areas surrounding four municipal lots located north and south of the boulevard.

Town council approved recommendations in a report from Public Works and Engineering Director Guillaume Boudrias during its October 26 session. The director’s report follows up on a recent consultant’s report on results of an environmental assessment of the area.

C’est une aide financière de près de 4,3 millions de dollars qui a été accordée aux municipalités de la circonscription. Les gouvernements fédéraux et provinciaux ont procédé à parts égales dans ce financement. La nécessité de modifier la disposition de certains bâtiments et de mettre en application différents protocoles sanitaires ont augmenté les dépenses des municipalités. Le déroulement des conseils municipaux et d’élections ont également causé des frais supplémentaires.

Des arbres et des arbres

Le canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet verra plusieurs projets communautaires de plantation d’arbres l’année prochaine grâce à un programme de soutien de la Conservation de la Nation-Sud (CNS). La CNS a approuvé les demandes de la Municipalité pour la plantation d’arbres dans six parcs de quartier de la municipalité, dans les villages d’Alfred, Curran, Lefaivre, Plantagenet, Treadwell et Wendover. – Gregg Chamberlain

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) released results of its investigation of an incident February 9, 2020, in Hawkesbury during which a man suffered a broken arm. SIU Director Joseph Martino determined, based on investigation results, there was no reason to file criminal charges against the officers related to the suspect’s injury.

In an ordinary year, hundreds of cyclists would make their way from Ottawa, Montreal, or Prescott-Russell to Vankleek Hill for the brewery’s Oktoberfest celebration. The ride would raise money for United Way Eastern Ontario’s youth homelessness initiatives.
