Charges against three individuals resulted from investigation of the incidents. All three have upcoming provincial court appointments in L’Orignal on the charges. The names of the accused have not been release to protect the identity of the victims.

Le conseil de Clarence-Rockland a approuvé le règlement 2020-70 lors de sa séance ordinaire du 24 aout. Le règlement confirme les dispositions d’un accord sur le système d’eau commun entre la Cité et la Municipalité de La Nation.

Dr Paul Roumeliotis, médecin-chef du Bureau de santé de l’est de l’Ontario (BSEO), a confirmé lors de sa téléconférence de presse du 24 aout qu’un cas de COVID-19 a été découvert à l’Auberge Plein Soleil du village d’Alfred. Le BSEO a officiellement déclaré l’éclosion de COVID-19 le 22 aout à cette maison de retraite après qu’un membre du personnel ait été testé positif au COVID-19. «Aucun des résidents ou des autres membres du personnel ne présente de symptômes», a déclaré Dr Roumeliotis.

The OPP continue to get calls from people fooled by con artists who pretend to have vehicle trouble. The “stranded traveller” scam takes place along the side of a major highway, an off-ramp, or in a parking lot. The fraud depends on the con artist getting the sympathy of the victim who just wants to help out someone in trouble on the road.

Cascadeur arrêté

Un Montréalais de 53 ans est accusé de vitesse excessive, aussi appelée « conduite de cascadeur », et de conduite imprudente le 31 juillet sur l’autoroute 417, près de la sortie Casselman. Selon le radar de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario qui l’a arrêté, le conducteur roulait à 165 kilomètres à l’heure dans une zone de 110 km/h. Son permis de conduire a été suspendu pendant sept jours et son véhicule a été mis en fourrière pendant sept jours. – Gregg Chamberlain

Road test scam

New drivers who go online to schedule their road test need to be careful. A new fraud site called “bookyourroadtest.com” claims to represent the official Ministry of Transport website link. OPP have a report of a person who paid $140 to book their road test and received nothing in return. Go to the provincial website at www.ontario.ca and do a search there to book a road test for a driver’s licence. – Gregg Chamberlain

Accusations multiples

Un contrôle routier nocturne effectué le 27 juillet à Bourget a débouché sur plusieurs accusations contre Richard Leroux-Bedard, 37 ans, de Bourget. Il est accusé de possession de méthamphétamine, de ne pas s’être arrêté pour la police, de possession de plus d’un permis de conduire et d’excès de vitesse. Il doit comparaître en cour provinciale le 23 septembre à L’Orignal. – Gregg Chamberlain

Sextortion scam

The OPP warn of an online sextortion scam targeting Eastern Ontario residents. The con artists work through social media, contacting potential victims, and threatening to release intimate photos of them to friends, family and online contacts unless they receive payment via wire transfer, Bitcoin, or in the form of gift cards. Contact police if targeted by this scam, update all online passwords and social media security setups, and be cautious about any messages or photos posted on social media. – Gregg Chamberlain

Possession de drogues

Un accident impliquant un seul véhicule a entrainé des accusations de possession de drogues contre la conductrice. Marie-Ève Caroline Lalonde-Dufour, 37 ans, de Crysler, est accusée de possession de cocaïne, de méthamphétamine, et aussi d’avoir eu le contrôle d’un véhicule alors que du cannabis était à sa portée. Les accusations résultent d’une enquête policière sur un incident survenu le 8 juillet sur la route 900 Ouest dans la municipalité de La Nation, lorsqu’un véhicule s’est retrouvé dans un fossé en bordure de route. Mme Lalonde-Dufour doit comparaitre à la Cour provinciale de L’Orignal le 23 septembre. – Gregg Chamberlain

Breach of probation

Norman Lacombe, 59, of Rockland is charged with three counts of breach of probation, resisting arrest, and public drunkenness, following an August 13 incident in North Glengarry Township. Police from the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry OPP detachment received an afternoon call about a public disturbance. Lacombe was held in custody for a bail hearing and later scheduled for a future appearance at provincial court in Cornwall. – Gregg Chamberlain

Jeune accusé

Un jeune de 15 ans de Rockland est accusé de vandalisme, de séquestration et de non-respect des conditions d’une précédente condamnation par le tribunal de la jeunesse, à la suite d’une enquête policière sur un conflit familial survenu le 4 juillet sur la rue St-Jacques à Rockland. Le jeune homme devra comparaitre de nouveau au tribunal provincial de la jeunesse à L’Orignal. – Gregg Chamberlain

The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) is pressing both senior-level governments to confirm their participation and financial support for a $1.6 billion public-private partnership proposal for the EORN Gig Project. The goal is to expand the existing EORN broadband project to provide ultra-fast Internet service to homes and businesses in the region.

Hawkesbury & District General Hospital (HGH) operates the test centre, located on Laurier Street, through a partnership arrangement with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began earlier this spring, the Hawkesbury test centre has handled almost 5000 assessments of people from Hawkesbury, Champlain Township, East Hawkesbury Township, and other areas to determine if they had the disease.

Owner Sophie Goulet posted a notice on the business’ Facebook page August 27, announcing the closure. Goulet Motosports has been a local institution for 41 years for motorcyclists in Hawkesbury and surrounding communities.
