Doctor Paul Roumeliotis, chief medical officer for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU), described the numbers for cases outstanding and resolved for COVID-19 in the region as ‘very encouraging” but he still urged vigilance for all residents in following pandemic protection protocols. He noted that all health officials throughout Canada are still concerned about the potential for a “second wave” of COVID-19 cases as the provinces and territories all begin their economic restart plans.

He emphasized that the sole responsibility of businessowners is to make sure their staff wear masks or face shields while at work and to make sure that their customers know about the mandatory masking rule.

Council must select between two options for new ward boundaries
During its July 13 session council received a report from Watson & Associates Economists LTD on two options for setting the boundaries for the municipal electoral wards. Both options are now under review with final recommendations for approval expected for the August 10 council session.

Le BSEO dénonce des bracelets anti-directives
«Je pense que c’est inapproprié de porter un bracelet vert, de se promener avec un bracelet qui dit ‘’colle-moi, mais ne me demande pas de porter un masque’’, a déclaré Dr Paul Roumeliotis, médecin-hygiéniste du BSEO. C’est sûr qu’on voudrait plutôt faire la promotion de ceux qui portent des masques et qui gardent leurs distances».
Ces commentaires ont été exprimés après qu’une vente de bracelets de couleurs affichant la volonté de respecter ou non les directives de santé publique ait été lancée sur les réseaux sociaux. Ces bracelets, offerts en rouge, en jaune et en vert, indiqueraient respectivement soit la volonté de garder ses distances, d’entrer en contact dans des mesures sécuritaires ou de s’approcher sans se préoccuper du port du masque ou de toute autre mesure préventive contre la COVID19.
Les inquiétudes du BSEO sont bien évidemment dirigées envers le port de bracelet de couleurs vertes, qui ferait la promotion de pratiques considérées non prudentes à ce stade-ci de la pandémie.
